For months, the Russo Brothers have been trying to build their own production company after having had a failed deal with 20th Century Fox and negotiations with Andy Muschietti to direct the film adaptation of The Electric State. But now they have officially announced a new deal come through.
Deadline has reported in an exclusive piece that NEON had acquired the rights for Assassination Nation alongside AGBO, Joe and Anthony Russo production company, for $10 million, making it the first eight-figure deal of the Sundance Film Festival.
Produced by David Goyer, Anita Gou, Kevin Turen, Aaron L. Gilbert, Matthew J. Malek and Manu Gargi and directed and written by Sam Levinson, the film tells us the story of what happens when a social media-savvy high school senior and her friends have to face the consequences of a provocateur posting details from the private digital lives – browser histories, direct messages, illegal downloads, secret text chains, and more- of everyone in their small town.
The film stars Odessa Young (The Daughter), Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch), Hari Nef (Transparent), singer/songwriter ABRA, Bill Skarsgard (IT), Bella Thorne, Colman Domingo (Selma, Fear the Walking Dead) Joel McHale (Community) Aniki Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, For Colored Girls), Maude Apatow (This is 40, Knocked Up) and Kelvin Harrison Jr (Monsters and Men, Monster).
