It’s been a few years since Hans Zimmer told the world he would be “retiring from the superhero world” after scoring Batman V Superman alongside Junkie XL back in 2016, as he said to Collider in an interview after BVS‘s premiere.

“I have officially retired from the superhero business … I did Batman Begins with Chris 12 years ago, so the Dark Knight trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life. This one [BVS] was very hard for me to do, to try to find a new language. For me it was doubly daunting because I’ve already done 11 years of Christian Bale and Chris Nolan Batman, and…This work keeps resonating in my head. I didn’t want to betray what I did in that time. You know, I didn’t want to go and belittle it or say, “Oh, this is all different,” or, “Forget about it. Let’s just start again.”

However, it seems like his retirement didn’t last very long as, according to Evan Peters, Hans Zimmer will be returning to the superhero world by the hand of Simon Kinberg and his upcoming film X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

In a recent talk at Josh Horowitz’s podcast HappySadConfused at Sundance, Peters confirmed that Zimmer will be scoring the film, although he joked about him being allowed to share that information -probably not-.

“[The set] was actually very tame. Simon directed this one, and came in very prepared, very professional. It was a different energy on set and everything got done like clockwork. It was very seamless. Everybody was a little bit more level-headed, so it was a very pleasurable, light experience. I think the film is gonna be incredible. Hans Zimmer’s scoring it—I don’t know if I was supposed to say that or not. Simon has surrounded himself with incredible people, and Simon knows this world better than anybody, so it was just cool to see him—he’s so happy and in his element in that world, and also being able to direct and guide everybody in this way. I was very happy for him and I think it’s gonna be great.”

This is certainly interesting news, as having Zimmer score one of your movies is certainly something that will guarantee excitement and sentiment on every note that we hear, as well as finding out that Klingberg’s set was “a different energy on set and everything got done like clockwork” as opposed at what was rumoured to be Singer’s set.

What do you think about this news? Are you excited to hear Zimmer’s score in X-Men: Dark Phoenix?
