Sony’s Superfly remake has put together an all-star cast to update the 70s blaxploitation movie.
Trevor Jackson (Grown-ish) will star as Youngblood Priest, with Jason Mitchell (Kong: Skull Island, Mudbound) playing Eric.
Superfly follows drug dealer Youngblood as he tries to make one last big sell, so he and his girlfriend Georgia can get out of the business and have a normal life.
The film co-stars Lex Scott Davis (CBS’ Training Day) as Georgia, Andrea Londo (Narcos) as Cynthia, Jacob Ming-Trent (White Famous) as Fat Freddy and Omar Chapparo (How to be a Latin Lover) as Adalberto.
Rapper Future is producing the movie and curating the soundtrack. The original film’s soundtrack featured the music of Curtis Mayfield and is considered a classic. It includes the hits Pusherman, Freddie’s Dead and the title song.
Director X, who has done music videos for Fifth Harmony, Drake and Rihanna, is helming the movie from a script by Alex Tse.
“I want to honor it in a way that shows a new generation how black culture continues to be a catalyst for new trends in every area, from fashion to music,” said Director X. “I’m also excited to be working with Future, both on the music and as a producer of the film – the original soundtrack is legendary, and that’s an inspiration for the artists that Future is working with to bring a singular modern musical vision to the film.”
