Legends of Tomorrow: Keiynan Lonsdale’s Kid Flash Joins as Series Regular

After months of teasing and unending speculation, it’s finally official–Keiynan Lonsdale will join Legends of Tomorrow as a series regular. The news comes by way of an EW report, which states the Kid Flash actor will first be seen on the show’s 11th episode this season. The episode airs on February 19, and by episode 13, Lonsdale will be welcomed aboard the Waverider full-time.

Kid Flash appeared in the Season 3 premiere, working alongside Nate Heywood/Steel. His displacement with Team Flash is what led to the decision that has him joining the Legends. Executive producer Phil Klemmer said the following in a statement:

“We loved working with Keiynan in our series premiere — the episode in which we learned that in between seasons 2 and 3 he had been fighting crime in Central City with Nick Zano’s Nate Heywood. So when his character stepped away from Flash to go on walkabout, after being dumped and feeling somewhat estranged from his family and team, we knew that Wally West would fit in perfectly on Legends,” said Klemmer. “After all, our show is about a collection of unlikely heroes who all began their journeys questioning who they are and where they belong — only to find those answers while traveling through time and having wacky adventures. So now, Wally West is not only back in the company of old friends from the Arrowverse, he’s fighting alongside a former enemy and career arsonist Mick Rory/Dom Purcell. By the end of this season, Wally will learn that the Legends have a different definition of what it means to be a hero.”

This news comes weeks after Lonsdale addressed his absence on The Flash. Interestingly, the character won’t return to Central City before joining Legends.

Legends of Tomorrow returns on Monday, February 12, in place of Supergirl, which will then be on hiatus until April 16.
