Mary Elizabeth Winstead Gets Lead Opposite Will Smith in ‘Gemini Man’
The hotly contested lead actress role in Ang Lee’s Gemini Man has gone to Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She will star with Will Smith in the sci-fi/action movie.
The story follows an over-the-hill assassin (Smith) who faces off against himself, a clone who is younger and in his prime.
Variety is reporting that Clive Owen will play the villain.

The film has been in development for 20 years. Apparently studios had to wait for special effects to advance enough that the same actor could play both ages of the lead.
It’s almost commonplace now to see actors digitally de-aged. The effect was used on Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War, Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy and Carrie Fisher in Rogue One.
Winstead was most recently seen in the third season of the FX series Fargo.
Directed by Ang Lee and starring Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Clive Owen, Gemini Man is scheduled to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
