The Help was a wonderful film that shone a spotlight on many talented actresses. Chastain and Spencer received critical acclaim and awards for their performances as Celia and Minny. One of the highlights of the film was the chemistry between Spencer and Chastain, that on-screen chemistry would eventually blossom into a wonderful friendship.
Last month Chastain responded to a tweet about Hollywood recognizing Spencer’s talent as a leading lady, she claimed to be working on something for Spencer to star in. Today, Variety reports that Chastain and Spencer will be staring in a comedy set during the holidays, developed by Chastain.
A heated bidding war was waged for the pitch from Chastain’s production company, Freckle Films. Universal won the bidding war, adding another comedy to their growing comedy empire. The studio was behind for one of the most successful comedies of 2017, Girls Trip.
Chastain and Kelly Carmichael, president of production at Freckle Films, wrote the original treatment, and Peter Chiarelli (Crazy Rich Asians) will be writing the script. Freckle Films is producing along with Maven Pictures.
The movie will follow two women who must fight the elements to get home for Christmas. Think Planes, Trains, and Automobiles with a twist.
Spencer and Chastain have had many successes and their careers have flourished since their first on-screen appearance together. They have remained close friends, and this reunion has long been awaited. This will also be the first real comedy the two actresses have starred in, and they are certainly up for the task.
