‘Fortnite’ Surpasses 40 Million Downloads

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite, which just released in July, has already passed 40 million downloads. Since December, the game has gained 10 million player downloads.

In the report, it was unclear if Epic was differentiating between the paid version and the free Battle Royale mode, but the players are distributed across the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions. The game also peaked at 2 million simultaneous players.

Eric Williamson, the lead systems designer of the game’s Battle Royale mode, spoke about this success in an interview:

“Since we launched Battle Royale at the end of September last year, to hear people say we’re basically one of the biggest, if not the biggest Battle Royale games in the western world in terms of numbers of players is amazing.”

This news comes right before its next big update, in which Fornite’s Battle Royale mode will be adding biomes and new maps.
