It has been announced that actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has officially joined the cast of James Mangold’s upcoming Patty Hearst biopic.
The project is being produced by Fox 2000 and is based on American Heiress by Jeffery Toobin which tells the true story of newspaper heiress Patty Hearst who was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974 and brainwashed into becoming a bank robber as well as the group’s spokesman. After a few weeks of being interviewed by Dr. Robert Jay Lifton of Yale University, she renounced her alliance to the SLA and he pronounced her a ”classic case which met all the psychological criteria of a coerced prisoner of war”. She ended up serving 22 months behind bars for her crimes.
The film is currently untitled but we do know that Abdul-Matten’s will be playing Cin, the leader and founder of the SLA movement. Elle Fanning is also slated to star in the movie.
Abdul-Matten’s past projects include the Baywatch remake, The Get Down, and Sidney Hall, while you can currently catch him as W. D. Wheeler in The Greatest Showman. The actor will also be step into the role of villainous Black Manta in the Aquaman film opposite Jason Momoa which comes out this December.
