It seems the long gestating Gambit movie really is snake bitten as yet another director has left the project.

Gore Verbinski has exited the movie ahead of its scheduled March production start. The film was in heavy casting mode, trying to figure out who will join star Channing Tatum.

Verbinski was the movie’s third director following the departures of original choice Rupert Wyatt in October 2015 and Doug Liman in August 2016.

If the project ever hits theaters, Tatum will star as mutant gambler, con man Remy LeBeau. There were rumors that Lizzy Caplan was in talks to join the cast.

Like other X-Men films in development, Gambit’s future was put in question following Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

Gambit is currently scheduled for release February 14, 2019, however, it now seems increasingly unlikely that it will make that date.

What do you think Disney should do about Gambit? Should they still shoot for a solo movie or fold the character into current franchises?

  1. I want this movie so badly!

  2. Somethings wrong behind the scenes…this movie should be a slam dunk.
