The Star Wars Franchise Passes the Harry Potter Franchise at Worldwide Box Office

With 9 live-action releases and 1 animated release the Star Wars film franchise has officially outgrossed the Harry Potter Franchise and its 9 films.

The extremely popular franchise was purchased by Disney in 2012 for $4 billion dollars. Disney has already made its money back with only three film releases over the last few years, each grossing well over 1 billion dollars. According to Star Wars News Net , The films have grossed over a total of 8.55 billion dollars globally in comparison to Harry Potter’s very close 8.53 billion dollars globally. This makes the Star Wars franchise the second-highest grossing film franchise of all time, second only to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With upcoming 2018 films, Solo and The Crimes of Grindlewald, releasing for the Star Wars and Harry Potter franchises respectively, this gap may become even smaller within the year.
