PUBG Dev Wants to Reach All Platforms & Expand Beyond Gaming
A Steam Early Access title, no one guessed PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds would develop into a pop culture sensation with unparalleled success. Taking Dota 2’s crown as the most concurrently played game on Steam, the battle royale shooter has recently expanded its horizons, having launched on Xbox One late last year. Of course, now curiosity has shifted towards PUBG’s inevitable arrival on PlayStation 4.
Talking to InvenGlobal (via GameSpot), the CEO of PUBG developer PUBG Corp., Chang Han Kim, shared the following when asked about a PS4 version:
“As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.”

According to Kim, other obstacles may hinder the game’s launch on PlayStation platforms:
“Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.”
When addressing the nascent franchise’s future growth, the CEO noted a desire to see PUBG develop into a cross-media phenomenon that could expand to: “Esports, movies, drama, cartoons, animation, and more.” Additionally, Kim revealed the developer has already received “love calls” from interested parties in Hollywood, such as Netflix. Wherever PUBG goes next, it seems the sky’s the limit.
