The highly anticipated Black Mirror made its return, premiering its fourth season on December 29, 2017, opening the season with arguably one of the best of the series — “USS Callister.”

This satirical episode was fun and comedic, incorporating many Star Trek and Star Wars references. After seeing this episode, fans of the show have urged for a potential spinoff, since this anthology series could branch its stand-alone episodes into its own series — if they wanted.

Toby Haynes, the director for the episode and whose work includes Doctor Who and Sherlock, had a few things to say about the potentiality of a spinoff.

“I was talking with Louise Sutton, who produced this and “Metalhead,” and she cooked up a brilliant idea of spinning it off into a TV series. I’d love to do a TV series of ‘”USS Callister,”‘ Haynes said.

Charlie Brooker, the series creator, may go on to revisit “USS Callister” he added.

“I think Charlie might revisit it as a Black Mirror. Whether I’m the one to do it, I don’t know. Being a fan of the show as much as I am, and being a part of making it, I’d love to work with that crew and cast again. It’s a gift for a director.”

Black Mirror has always been known for bringing in star-studded guest appearances for its standalone episodes, and “USS Callister” was no different. The cast included Jesse Plemons (Fargo), Cristin Milioti (Fargo), Jimmi Simmons (Westworld) and Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum), who also appeared in season three’s premiere in “Nosedive.”

Black Mirror has not yet been renewed for a season 5 by Netflix as of late, but we’re positive the show will go on to continue bringing to life current events and constructs.

  1. I’m all for it if it’s like a thirty minute sitcom, like a Brooklyn 99. That show manages to be socially conscious and hella funny in just half an hour. I’m all for seeing more of Michaela Coel in anything!

  2. This could potentially be a very dope series especially with the fact that they’re in a universe where they come into contact with gamers lol. A lot of ill stuff could pop off…maybe be a us version of Red Dwarf
