Sophie Turner Says Simon Kinberg Is “Revolutionizing” The Superhero Genre with ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’
The Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the best and most well-known story arcs in X-Men comic book history and in 2018, Chris Claremont’s epic will arrive on the big screen.
Sophie Turner, who stars as Jean Grey in the film had a lot to say about the filming process and director, Simon Kinberg with the movie’s release date now less than a year away. Turner said, “I kept saying to Simon, ‘Oh good, that’s done. Now I only have, like seven huge emotional scenes to go.’ It was a real challenge.”

Kinberg has played a significant role in the past X-Men films, but X-Men: Dark Phoenix marks his directorial debut. Turner had only words of praise for the first-time director and said, “Simon has been the brain behind X-Men for years, and it’s really exciting to have what feels like one of our own rise up and take hold of the franchise, and direct it in the way that he sees it. I have to say he’s one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with. He’s so passionate and collaborative.”
In regards to the film itself, Turner described it as a “dark, gritty drama” and also said, “We are revolutionizing it. We wanted to create a whole new genre of superhero movie.”
