Daniel Kaluuya Will be 2018 Recipient of Variety’s Creative Impact in Acting Award
While Jordan Peele’s Get Out might not be getting all of the respect that the cinematographic masterpiece deserves (cough Golden Globes nominating it in the comedy section cough), the work of Daniel Kaluuya is not going unnoticed. The actor is set to be honored by Variety with their Creative Impact in Acting Award at the 2018 Palm Springs International Film Festival.
The ceremony will be held on January 3rd during their annual brunch and past winners of the award include Viggo Mortensen who took it this year while Will Smith took it in 2016. Of Kaluuya, Variety Vice President and Executive Director, Steven Gaydos had this to say:
“The terror, tension, humor, and fury of this powerfully effective cinematic balancing act all rests on the shoulders of this brilliant young British actor who communicates universal anxieties without ever losing the essential home address of his beleaguered African-American hero.”
Kaluuya has also earned nominations in the best lead actor categories for The Golden Globes, The Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and others as well as already having taken home the award from the Boston Society of Film Critics and the African American Film Critics Association.
Kaluuya’s past credits include the British version of Skins, Doctor Who, Kick-Ass 2 and Black Mirror and he will be starring as W’Kabi in Black Panther when the movie is released in February.
So are you hype to see Daniel getting the recognition he deserves? Tell us about it in the comments below!
