‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Hits $220 Million Opening Weekend

Well well, Star Wars: The Last Jedi proved to be a force to be reckoned with. The force was definitely strong with this one, friends. See what I did there? I’m funny, I know. They don’t call us Prophets of Color for no reason! It was reported twice now (once by yours truly) that The Last Jedi would hit over $200M in domestic box office success, dating back to October.

The film has the second-highest grossing opening weekend of all time at $220M, trailing behind (guess who) Star Wars: The Force Awakens. According to Variety, the movie opened with a whopping $104.8M on Friday (including $45M from Thursday night previews) making it the second-best opening day of all time. With the additional international grosses at $230M, the movie ended at force shattering $450M world-wide! Keep in mind this all comes shortly after it was announced that Disney completed the deal in buying Fox. Not that Star Wars isn’t a monster in its own right but it’s an interesting fact to note.

If you haven’t already, go see Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theaters now, and if you did already, let us know what you think! Check out our spoiler-free review here!
