Michiru Shimada has written scripts for some of the biggest and most popular animes such as One Piece and Little Witch Academia.  She was a Japanese anime screenwriter from Tokyo, and on Friday December 15, 2017, she passed away.

Her daughter took to Shimada’s Twitter account, making this post.

島田満の娘でございます。僭越ながら母に代わりお伝え致します。
母、島田満は本日12月15日11時30分に昨年から患っていた病の為、永眠致しました。享年58歳でした。
38年に渡る長いキャリアの中で執筆してきた様々な作品を愛してくださった方々、誠に有難うございました。

The tweet notes that Shimada was laid to rest on Friday at 11:30 am in Japan time after falling ill last year.  It then thanks her fans for following the writer’s 38-year career.

Shimada started her anime-writing career on anime series Urusei Yatsura and Dr. Slump and Arale-chan after graduating from Waseda University.  In the 1990s, she worked on Rurouni Kenshin before moving onto the popular anime series One Piece in 1999 and 2000, and then One Piece: The Movie.  Her more recent work includes Little Witch Academia which can be found on Netflix.

Shimada’s career spanned nearly 40 years in iconic, popular, and beloved series.  We thank her for her amazing work.  May she rest in peace.
