SAG Award Movie Nominations Highlight Performances not Budget
The SAG Awards are the usually the best prediction for the acting categories at the Oscars. However, they can also be surprising at times, which makes them one of the most fun award shows.
While the Golden Globes were full of stars and big studio projects, the SAG Awards, which are voted on by members of SAG-AFTRA, went strictly for the best performances.
The nominees for outstanding performance by a cast includes a list of smaller films, with wide release projects like Dunkirk and The Post not making the cut.
The lack of nominations for The Post is particularly surprising considering its star-studded cast, led by Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.
Perhaps the biggest shock of the morning was the lack of nominations for The Shape of Water. The movie has been dominating awards season, but only got two SAG nods.
Geek fans can find Logan, Baby Driver and Wonder Woman in the stunt ensemble category. The nomination for Wonder Woman is notable since it features a large female cast of stunt performers.
