Regina Hall To Join ‘Shaft’ Sequel Alongside Samuel L. Jackson

As revealed by Variety, Regina Hall, Scary Movie alum, is set to join New Line’s Shaft sequel. Hall will be portraying John Shaft’s (Samuel L. Jackson) former love interest and mother of Jessie. T. Usher’s younger Shaft.

Shaft will be an update of the 2000 version, which was directed by John Singleton, as not to be confused from the original 1971 directed by Gordon Parks.

In the 2000 version, John Shaft goes on a mission to make sure that a son of a real estate agent is brought to justice, after witnessing his racially-motivated murder.

In the sequel, Usher will be portraying the role as a cyber-expert and FBI agent, who is forced to enlist the help of his father John. This causes friction in the journey to attaining equity.

Screenwriter Kenya Barris has tackled the Shaft script, her work including Girl’s Trip — Hall also starred in the movie.

Tim Story will be directing the updated version, which is set to release on June 14, 2019.

What do you think about Regina Hall joining the franchise? Excited to see the film? Let us know in the comments below!
