FX Set to Create ‘Welcome to Night Vale’ Television Series

“Welcome to Night Vale”, the popular podcast and book series, is getting the adaptation treatment in the form of a TV show for the FX television network in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television.

The podcast revolves around the inhabitants of a small town called Night Vale and a radio show that talks about all of the weird events that happen in it. The series was created in 2012 by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. Fink said that he came up with the idea of a town in the desert “where all conspiracy theories were real, and we would just go from there with that understood.” The show uses long-form storytelling and individual episodes also work as standalone narratives with recurring jokes and themes flowing throughout them.

To date, the show has been downloaded more than 180 million times worldwide and they’ve even turned it into a live tour show, performing it in 16 countries and 35 states.

The series is set to be adapted by Gennifer Hutchison who is currently an Executive Producer of Better Call Saul.

On top of the show, there will also be new script books for seasons three and four of the podcast with companion volumes featuring guest introductions by the authors and cast members. Original illustrations will be done by series artist Jessica Hayworth.
