Lena Waithe set to Recur in Season Two of ‘Dear White People’
Emmy winning writer and actress Lena Waithe continues to grow her profile with a role on another Netflix series. She has booked a recurring role in the second season of Dear White People.
During the first season, the crew was obsessed with the Scandal parody Defamation. For season two, their new show will be a Love & Hip Hop ripoff called Trap House Tricks, where Waithe plays “P Ninny, a braggadocious MC.”

“I’ve never played anyone like this character,” Waithe, who was a producer on the movie upon which the series is based, told EW. “What’s so funny about her is that she’s not aware of how she’s coming off to the world. But, she’s a lot of fun. I just got be like really silly and crazy, and say crazy stuff, because that’s what happens in that world.”
P Ninny’s journey will match what the main characters are going through this season.
“It’s Lena if Lena was a hot mess. It’s proto-Lena,” says series creator Justin Simien. “It’s [us] having fun and making our own commentary on the state of black people in television and in culture and how that affects people, particularly our protagonists.”
Dear White People returns to Netflix for its second season in 2018.
