Kathleen Kennedy ‘Would Love’ to See Taika Waititi Direct a ‘Star Wars’ Movie
The success of Thor: Ragnarok has made Taika Waititi the hottest director in Hollywood.
Kevin Feige has already said he wants to keep Waititi in the Marvel family, and now another Disney boss wants him to work on the biggest franchise in the world.
In an interview with Newshub, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has made it clear she wants Waititi to join the Star Wars universe.
“I would love for him to direct a Star Wars movie,” she said. “I think he has exactly the right sensibility. It was very exciting to see him step into the Marvel universe and do such an amazing job with Thor.”
In the past Waititi has been skeptical about the possibility of working on a Star Wars film. The director didn’t think his improv style would fit the “determinedly self-serious” tone of the movies and even said he would be “fired within a week.”
Of course Waititi isn’t crazy and later said he’s “not an idiot. Who would actually say no to Star Wars?”
Perhaps his outlook has changed since working on a big Marvel blockbuster. It would certainly be interesting to see what he would do with Star Wars.
In the meantime, fans can just enjoy Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which flies into theaters Dec. 15.
