Sony Working on a Remake of ‘Super Fly’
Fresh off the news that Warner Bros. is developing a Cleopatra Jones remake comes word that Sony is working on a new Super Fly.
For the unfamiliar, Super Fly is a 1972 blaxploitation film starring Ron O’Neal as Youngblood Priest, a drug dealer trying to make one last big score before he gets out of the business.
The movie became more famous for its successful soundtrack featuring Curtis Mayfield. The soul record includes classics like Freddie’s Dead, Pusherman and Super Fly. It is so popular it actually out grossed the movie.
Super Fly did lead to two sequels, Super Fly T.N.T. in 1973 and The Return of Super Fly in 1990.
In addition to Cleopatra Jones and Super Fly, a new Shaft is being developed with both Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson returning.
Who do want to play the new Youngblood and who should make the soundtrack?
