Liu Yifei Cast as Mulan in Live Action Adaptation
As Disney continues to remake its animated classics, the studio has found its newest Princess. Chinese actress Liu Yifei, who is also known as Crystal Liu, will play Mulan in the live action version.
The original tells the story of Mulan, who pretends to be a man to fight in the Chinese army and save her aging father. Once the truth comes out, she is kicked out but, she comes back and saves the Emperor, bringing great honor to her family.
In the original, Mulan was voiced by Agents of SHIELD star Ming-Na Wen. The film also featured Eddie Murphy as Mushu, Lea Salonga as Mulan’s singing voice and B.D. Wong as Shang.
Liu is known for her roles in The Four trilogy, The Assassins, The Chinese Widow and Once Upon a Time. She has also been an ambassador for Garnier, Pantene and Dior.
Disney’s Mulan is directed by Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife) for a 2019 release.
