Trailer Breakdown: Every Lit Moment From The ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer

Christmas came early this year friends! The Avengers: Infinity War trailer FINALLY dropped today and I’ve already watched it about 30 times since 8:00 AM, how about you? While it was big on teases, it did come through with some lit scenes and dialogue; all in all, it was a great first trailer. Now there’s a lot to discuss about what went down so, let’s chat. Here are some of the best moments from the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer!

The trailer kicks off with a shot of an alien planet and a wounded Tony Stark who looks to be mourning a loss; this is very reminiscent of the vision he got from Scarlett Witch back in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s dope to see continuity and development in Stark, as this vision acted as a catalyst for his motives in Captain America: Civil War. Along with this scene is some dislogue from varoious cast members, starting with Nick Fury’s recollection of how the Avengers first began. “There was an idea,” Fury says as Tony takes over “to bring together a group of people,” Vision cuts in, “to see if we could become, something more”. The scene cuts to Vision in a human form with Scarlett Witch. Maybe the two will have twin kids after all.

“…So when they needed us, we could fight the battles,” says Thor as he looks out of what appears to be the Guardians of the Galaxy’s ship.

“…that they never could,” says Black Widow. We then get a scene of her and Bruce seeing each other for the first time since he ran off at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is also the first time we see Black Widow’s new blonde bob in live action. I’m excited to see the development for Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk since Ruffalo teased a trilogy arc for the big guy to take place in Thor: RagnarokInfinity WarAvengers 4. They seem to be in Wakanda where a major battle is going to take place. Also, peep that Hulkbuster arm. Hulk, wyd?

“In time, you will know what it’s like to lose,” says Thanos as a shot of Bruce, Tony, Wong & Doctor Strange at the Sanctum Sanctorum where some major destruction is commencing just outside in New York. The hole in the steps behind them was caused by Hulk’s landing followed by Wong & Doctor Strange’s finding of him, no doubt.

We got a glimpse of it in Civil War and then it disappeared I guess in Spider-Man: Homecoming (I’m poking fun, relax) but here it is in all it’s hair-raising glory, SPIDEY-SENSE! Our young hero, Peter Parker, is alerted of trouble nearby as he’s on a school bus. We see a big ring in the New York sky which may be a portal of some sort to bring Thanos and his minions to Earth. This is probably what’s causing the trouble for Doctor Strange & co.

“…to feel so desperately that you’re right, then to fail all the same.” says Thanos. Even though he’s majority CGI, Josh Brolin really brings an ominous and intimidating force to the screen whenever you hear him. I mean, he hasn’t even made an appearance yet and I’m shook! If only X-Men: Apocalypse took notes.

Loki tesseract.gif

Then, we have Loki walking over what looks to be dead Asgardians, those of which we saw at the end of Thor: Ragnarok all together on the ship they used to escape Asgard. We got a tease of Thanos’s destruction of the ship in the post credit scene from Ragnarok, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. What is shocking, is Loki seemingly handing over the Tesseract to someone off-screen, Loki, wyd?!

thanos portal.gif

Thanos said he is tired of playing games with y’all. Avengers, what’s good?! Look at that smug smile he has at the end. He looks to be on the same planet that we saw Tony on earlier with a bloody hand and in mourning; talk about menacing. It’s about time we get more than two solid MCU villains in theaters!

iron spider.gif

Ladies & gentlemen, the ICONIC Iron Spider suit in action, finally! We got a tease of it at the end of Homecoming but here it’s put to use against those rings Peter saw in the sky. This battle scene will seemingly bring Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Wong & Iron Man together for an epic battle in New York. Did anyone else scream when they saw this? I know it wasn’t just me!

It’s a quick shot, but here’s our first look at one of the members of Thanos’s Black Order that was teased earlier this year at D23! It looks to be Proxima Midnight tossing a spear at, oh I wonder who? Bearded Cap, coming to save the day! “Engage all defenses, and get this man a shield.” says King T’Challa. GET HIM HIS SHIELD. Make sense since the vibranium that was used to make Cap’s shield comes from Wakanda.

battle in wakanda 1.gif

Here’s some more footage from that huge battle in Wakanda that I mentioned earlier. We see Captain America & Black Panther battling four-armed alien fiends. I believe an infinity stone resides here in Wakanda, which is probably the cause for the invasion.

thanos go crazy 1.gif

“Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe,” says Thanos as we get shots of Spider-Man being slammed into the ground (of what looks like that planet we’ve seen Thanos and Tony on twice now) and one of the Black Order members taking the Mind Stone from Vision’s head. I. Am. STRESSED y’all.

thanos go crazy 2.gif

“…But this does put a smile on my face,” continues Thanos as he wields the Infinity Gauntlet. Woo look at that. A villain if I’ve ever seen one. Also peep the Gauntlet has the Tesseract/Space Stone & the Power Stone. Now we haven’t seen the Power Stone since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 where it was supposedly in the safe hands of the Nova Corps. Thanos’s reign has no end, does it?

battle in wakanda 2.gif

More scenes from the fight in Wakanda. This time we have Winter Soldier and Falcon joining the fight! A Twitter user said “Bucky discovered castor oil while in Wakanda”. WE SEE YOU BUCKY WITH THE GOOD HAIR.

we love a cast.gif

WE LOVE A CAST. Here we have Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, Black Panther, War Machine, Falcon & Okoye charging into battle and I screamed! Let’s take a moment to examine this here. War Machine seems to be holding up rather well after being almost crippled in Civil War. Also, YES MELANIN. This is my favorite shot from the trailer for sure. Not only is this an iconic “Avengers rushing into battle” scene like the ones we got from earlier films, but we have 3 black superheroes and Okoye (from Wakanda) all on-screen at the same time interacting with one another. This is huge for a black comic book fan such as myself. Representation matters.

thor:guardians.gif

Last but definitely not least, we have Thor meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time. I think most of the outer-space battles will take place with them and they’ll eventually link up with Tony & Spider-Man on that planet we keep seeing. Or maybe they’ll try to defend the Power Stone with the Nova Corps but inevitably fail. Go ahead and check out the trailer some more below & be sure to catch Avengers: Infinity War May 2018!
