Confederate Creators Currently Not ‘Actively’ Working on the Series

It’s being reported that the creators of HBO’s alternate history series Confederate are not “actively” working on the series. A report from The Washington Post claims that the creators, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, aren’t currently working on the show.

The show, which was met with immediate contention through #NoConfederate, was announced earlier this year. Confederate will portray a version of America in which the Confederacy never rejoined the United States and slavery there remained legal thereafter. Anger with the show’s announcement was only fueled after the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” attacks, after which HBO president Casey Bloys confirmed that the show would continue to move forward.

The news that Benioff and Weiss does not necessarily mean that the show has been cancelled, or that they aren’t writing for it. Benioff and Weiss, who also created and write for Game of Thrones are likely directing their attention towards completing the final season of Thrones.

Since the announcement that Confederate would continue amid violence, HBO has been silent on the show’s future.
