According to James Gunn, “The Time Must Be Right” For Adam Warlock To Appear in the MCU
When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiered in cinemas, it showed us a post-credits scene with Adam Warlock’s “cocoon” and Ayesha stating that He -Adam- is the next step in the evolution of the Sovereign race.
In a recent thread about frequent questions on the way he writes the scripts for the movie and gives them treatment, Gunn revealed that originally the studio didn’t want to include the Adam post-credit scene as he won’t be appearing neither in Avengers Infinity War, in Avengers 4 nor did they have plans for him in general.
11 I awoke with a vision of the Stakar Ravagers scene in my head and couldn't stop thinking about it for days. We almost didn't include the Adam Warlock scene because he was definitely not in Avengers 3 or 4 and we had no plans for him in general.

Continuing with the tread, James Gunn also took to clarify that, up until now, there’s no plan for Adam to be in the MCU, as his timing has to go along with the story going in the Universe.
12 And despite so many people thinking Adam will show up in Vol 3 that is something that we have never confirmed. Who knows how long it will take him to bake in that cocoon. That said, I love Adam. But the time must be right.

Although in the comics, Adam Warlock was tied to the Soul Gem -the last remaining Infinity Stone to be revealed in the MCU- and it exits an early draft of the film with Him playing a more prominent role, Adam Warlock more prominently, the fact that up until now there’s been barely any mention of him, makes us think Gunn is not only talking about his films, but the MCU as well.
