Shazam is the film that’s nearest to start production in the upcoming DCEU’s slate -which includes Wonder Woman 2, Justice League Dark, etcetera- and in its cast, we currently have actors Zachary Levi and Asher Angel to play Captain Marvel and Billy Batson respectively.

While there’s not a lot of information about Shazam, Zachary Levi has given us a hint on what the film might show us when it premieres as when talking to KTLA 5, he says that the hope for the film is to be heartwarming but with superheroes.

“The hope is that it’s gonna feel like the movie ‘Big’, but with superpowers. […] So, you’re gonna have the heart of that kind of Tom Hanks of the kid in you.”

While it’s certainly interesting to hear that comparison, it’s not a far-fetched one as in Big, we have a kid who is magically transformed into a grown man while in Shazam we will have a kid who uses a magic word to transform into a super-powered adult.

What Shazam is aiming is for the same themes Big takes, like the wish of fulfilment and childhood fantasy but with the added complication of having superpowers and the need to save the world.
