Women of Color Auditioning for the Title Role in ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’

Casting is underway for the upcoming CW series, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Following the success of their mystery-based Riverdale which features characters made popular by the Archie comics, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be based on the comic series of the same name.

Based on earlier auditions for the part, the actresses had a look similar to Melissa Joan Hart who played the titular character in Sabrina the Teenage Witch with blonde hair and blue eyes, but Omega Underground has some audition tapes from actresses Sherell Jackson and Ashley Chiu. Via That Hashtag Show, the casting call that went out for the role of Sabrina specified open ethnicity, able to play 16. The full casting call for the role and description of Sabrina was listed as follows:

Female, Open Ethnicity, to play 16. 

Sabrina is an half-human, half-witch,empowered young woman just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Sabrina’s intelligent, compassionate, and brave to the point of recklessness.

She is fiercely loyal to her family and friends; wickedly funny and in the middle of a star-crossed romance with her classmate Harvey Kinkle.She challenges witch-doctrine at every turn. She is all that stands between us and the Forces of Darkness that threaten our world.
