Amazon and Warner Bros. Are in Talks for a Series Adaptation of ‘Lord of the Rings’

So it seems like we might get a new fantasy series after Game of Thrones is over, as, reportedly, the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien and Warner Bros. are in talks with Amazon to adapt one of the most famous novels the authour has: Lord of the Rings.

According to Variety, the negotiations -headed by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos- are still in very early stages, as no deal has been set just yet. However, the fact that Amazon’s CEO -who barely get’s involved in this kind of deals- is involved personally in dealmaking for Amazon Studios means things might be more serious than what we originally thought… Or it may appeal to the fact that Jeff Bezos is a huge fan of the fantasy novels.

This news comes at an unlikely moment, as just recently Warner Bros and the Tolkien estate have settled a five-year court battle of an $80 million dispute over The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, due to a copyright infringement and breach of contract over digital merchandising, including online gambling machines and video games.

When Variety reached for comments to Warner Television and Amazon, representatives from both companies declined to comment.
