A source close to the production has said that Lin is the current frontrunner to direct the next chapter of the Fast & Furious story.  Lin’s first experience with the franchise was when he directed The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift back in 2006 before returning again to direct the next three subsequent films. The upcoming film will be the 9th in the series.

Being released ahead of the film will be Hobbs & Shaw, a spinoff focusing on the characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. The movie’s premiere is currently set for July of 2019 and Dwayne Johnson made a post to his Instagram about it earlier this month. The post can be seen below.

Lin is also the director behind Star Trek Beyond and Better Luck Tomorrow and is currently attached to a sequel to the 1996 film Space Jam and is set to star LeBron James. Lin’s television work includes three episodes of Community, the pilot of Scorpion, and directing the first two episodes of the second season of True Detective.
