The popular tween series, Andi Mack is set to portray a first for a television show on the Disney Channel.

The ‘coming out’ journey of one of the show’s main characters, Cyrus Goodman will begin when the one-hour premiere of season two airs this Friday. Goodman, played by Joshua Rush, will let his friends know, but you’ll have to watch the episode to see how his friends react to the news.

According to Deadline, Cyrus realizes that he has developed feelings for Jonah Beck (Asher Angel), the long-time crush of Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee). During Cyrus’ journey, he will confide in Buffy (Sofia Wylie) and will wrestle with how to tell his new girlfriend, Iris. A source called the journey one of self-acceptance.

In a statement, the Disney Channel said:

“Andi Mack is a story about ‘tweens’ figuring out who they are. (Creator) Terri Minsky, the cast and everyone involved in the show takes great care in ensuring that it’s appropriate for all audiences and sends a powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity.”

Minsky and the Disney Channel are said to have screened the story arc to organizations such as: GLAAD, PFLAG, The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, and Common Sense Media, as well as child development experts to ensure it is age appropriate and respectful.
