Natalia Cordova-Buckley Will Voice Frida Kahlo in Pixar’s ‘Coco’
We know her as Eleanor ‘Yo-Yo’ Rodriguez in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, an Inhuman and ally of S.H.I.E.L.D, but now, she will also be know as the voice of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in the english version of the upcoming Pixar film, COCO.
Deadline broke the news of her casting and was later confirmed by Natalia through her Instagram account, where alonsgide a screen-grab of an article, she shared a statement.
Although her role has been described as a cameo, it’s clear that, for Natalia and more, Frida Kahlo is an important figure as, as director Lee Unkrich stated:
“Frida Kahlo is a captivating icon in Mexico’s history. Her art, strength and resilience inspired us in so many ways. Natalia’s role in Coco pays homage to Ms. Kahlo, her work and the people of Mexico who love her.”
Coco is not a film about Frida’s life, but about a young boy and aspiring musician, named Miguel, who ventures in the Land of the Dead on the Day of The Dead, or Día de los Muertos in spanish. Her cameo means that, most likely, she will make a post-death appearance in the afterlife.
