Ever since Warner Bros. announced that Steppenwolf was going to be the main antagonist of Justice League, we’ve been wondering whether the movie will follow the uncle-nephew relationship he has with Darkseid in the comics.

It’s not unusual for film adaptations to change things up a little bit, from origin stories to first meetings and entire relationships, so is natural for everyone to question even the smallest things when something they love is being adapted to the big screen.

Now, thanks to Hollywood Magazine, we may have a response to that question, as they stated in a feature that Steppenwolf will maintain his place as Darkseid’s uncle in the film.

“The uncle of the universe’s greatest villain, Darkseid, and a member of his elite force, Steppenwolf survived a battle with Doomsday. That should tell you just how powerful he is. Aside from his strength and near-immortality, he’s also an expert tactician and wields a vicious electro-axe that can cut through just about anything.

Steppenwolf’s primary role is the leader of the parademons, the stormtroopers who seek to destroy in the name of Darkseid. His primary mission is to serve his nephew, and his status as the main villain in Justice League suggests the scope of the threat facing Earth, as well as the inevitable appearance of Darkseid himself.

Irish star Ciaran Hinds plays the role in the movie, though he will appear through the use of motion-capture technology. According to the actor, in the film, Steppenwolf is old, tired, and trying desperately to get out from under his servitude to his nephew.”

Although is nice to have some confirmation of sorts, is necessary to point out that is not an official source. HM could be citing a Wikipedia excerpt on the character or something like that. All we can do is wait until Justice League arrives and confirms everything once and for all.

What do you think about this news? Are you excited for Steppenwolf’s appearance?
