Clark Gregg says ‘Agents of SHIELD’ Season Five Will Bridge Cosmic Side of MCU
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have always wondered why Agents of SHIELD is not more connected to the events in the films. Sure there are occasional mentions, but the show has largely lived in its own world for the past two seasons.
According to star Clark Gregg, that may change in season five. At New York Comic Con, the star discussed how the series’ fifth season will tie into the cosmic story of the MCU.
“I grew up watching those shows – Star Trek, those things.” he said. “I wouldn’t say that [season 5] is like that, but to have it really bridge into more the sci-fi, cosmic part of the Marvel Universe in ways that will be surprising to people, it’s really thrilling.”

The season four finale ended with the team defeating evil robot AIDA, then being captured by a mysterious government agency. In the next scene Coulson woke up on a space station.
If the show really plans to explore the cosmic side of the MCU, this could include characters from Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy or even Captain Marvel. SHIELD could also be planning a tie in similar to what it did with Thor: The Dark World or Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD premieres its fifth season on ABC Fridays at 9 pm following the conclusion of Marvel’s Inhumans.
