Girls Trip is the biggest comedy of the year. With the critical and financial success it seems talk of a sequel won’t cease anytime soon.

Tiffany Haddish was recently interviewed by People Magazine. She spoke on her experience working with her costars and states that they have discussed the potential for a sequel amongst themselves.

Haddish says the cast is on board even if there’s no script or official announcement yet. “In my head, we are planning a sequel,” she said. “Latifah and I, we’ve talked about it. Regina and I, we’ve talked about it. Jada and I, we’ve talked about it. Jada and I feel like if they made Bad Moms 2, they should make a Girls Trip 2.”

With an eager cast, and even more eager fanbase the potential for sequel looks good.

Behind the scenes everything is set up for the potential sequel. Producer Will Packer has a first-look deal with Universal. They have been distributing Will Packer Productions films since 2015. In the same week Girls Trip was released director Malcolm D. Lee also signed a first-look deal with Universal. Haddish was added to the cast of Night School, the latest comedy by Packer and Lee at Universal. Screenwriter Tracey Oliver has been keeping busy and recently signed on to work on the TV reimagining of First Wives Club. If a sequel was to take place there would be considerations made to accommodate Oliver’s work schedule, or they might bring another female writer to help script the sequel.

With the talent firmly locked in at Universal and have close relationships, if they wish it a sequel will happen.

Aside from the talent being close the critical response and box office numbers are enough to warrant a sequel.

Girls Trip currently has an 89% rating on RT, and reviews have been consistently positive. Girls Trip‘s box office is also quite spectacular. opened with $31 million, out performing every comedy film released in 2017. It garnered $136 million worldwide, $50 million short of Bad Moms‘ worldwide total, the sequel for Bad Moms will be hitting theatres November 1st.

If Bad Moms gets a sequel, Girls Trip should, too.
