James Gunn Says ‘Guardians 3’ ‘Kickstarts’ New MCU Story

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe got some hints about what’s coming next when director James Gunn had a Twitter Q&A.

When a fan asked about Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige’s recent comments that Avengers 4 was the end of the MCU’s original 22 movie story arc, Gunn clarified what they really meant.

“No. Read Kevin Feige’s quotes & not the static around them. It’s the end of one long story & the beginning of another,” tweeted Gunn.

He also explained the Guardians of the Galaxy movies place in the new story.

“And one of the films that will kickstart the new story will be #GotGVol3,” he tweeted.

The MCU has been building up to a battle over the Infinity Stones with the Mad Titan Thanos. These events will finally come to a head when The Avengers, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy come together in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters May 4, 2018.

What do you think should be the focus of the next phase of MCU movies?
