‘New Mutants’ Director Talks Sequel Plans & Confirms the Film’s Time Period

The New Mutants trailer dropped yesterday and man was it lit! 20th Century Fox and the film’s producers were serious when they said the movie would be like a haunted house movie of the horror genre, which is an interesting take on a superhero movie. It looks like the manipulation Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt) aka Mirage’s powers will play a huge part in the terrors that the team will face.

Director Josh Boone sat with IGN and talked about sequel plans, the film’s time period, and where New Mutants fit into the X-Men universe. When Boone as asked if we’d see more well-known X-Men members in the movie, he had this to say:

“I can’t… there’s some things I can’t talk about. I can just say it is connected to and a part of the X-Men universe, and will continue to be a part of the X-Men universe and will be a part of that as it opens up in the next movies and all that. Every video complains online about characters that aren’t in it right now. I will say we’re going to introduce new characters in the next movie as well. Characters like Karma and Warlock, and all that will be in future movies.”

I think it would be cool to see X-Men like Shadowcat played by Ellen Page incorporated in the movie. In the comics, Kitty Pryde is no stranger to leading the X-Men when she gets older. Regarding the flm’s time period, Boone said the movie “takes place present day”, meaning this is a world and timeline where the X-Men exists. The events of Logan would not have happened yet and Days of Future Past‘s ending confirms that the X-Men are alive and active.

New Mutants hits theaters April 13, 2018! Check out the trailer below.
