One of the many questions that arises about the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline is, where are the other heroes when characters are fighting battles in their standalone films?

In the past the answer has been that these events are taking place simultaneously or very close together. However, the introduction of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel to the MCU has brought those questions up again.

Her standalone movie is supposedly set in the 90s, so fans have been wondering where has she been while all this other stuff has been happening for 20 movies?

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige gave i09 a very cryptic answer.

“The key is…out there,” he said.

As usual Marvel’s answers just bring up more questions.

Since Captain Marvel fights in the cosmic universe of the MCU, does this mean she’s been in space all this time? If true, does she know about the Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor?

Honestly there’s no real answers to be had until Brie Larson makes her MCU debut in Captain Marvel March 8, 2019.

There are rumors that she may also appear in Avengers 4, which opens May 3, 2019.
