‘Blue Crush’ Series Headed to NBC
Hollywood loves a reboot and it seems like NBC is officially set on their next one. Blue Crush was a movie that came out back in 2002, that revolved around three friends with the dream of successfully riding the waves of Hawaii’s famous North Shore, a surfing capital and home to numerous surf competitions.
The movie itself was based off a magazine article called “Life’s Swell” by Susan Orlean and it grossed $14.2 million coming in third for its opening weekend. It had a domestic gross of around $40.4 million and brought in a total of $51.8 million globally, just barely doubling it’s estimated 25 million dollar budget. A direct-to-dvd sequel was released in 2011 to negative reviews.
The adaptation is being written and executive produced by Hannah Schneider (Reign) and is expected to keep the premise of the film while expanding on the characters and surf culture as a whole.
