New ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Trailer Reveals Surprises, Spoilers
Fans have been not so patiently waiting for a new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer. With the film flying into theaters Dec. 15, this is one of the last chances moviegoers have to figure out what’s going to happen in Episode VIII of the franchise.
Lucasfilm is famously secretive about the films, so all we know at this point is that Rey trains with Luke to become a Jedi, while Poe and Finn continue their work in the Resistance.
Director Rian Johnson advised fans who wanted to stay spoiler-free to not watch the trailer and boy was he right. There was a lot of new information to unpack in the video.
The clip opens with Supreme Leader Snoke’s voice describing how he recognized Kylo Ren’s power. The second shot we see is of Imperial Walkers, but maybe now they’re First Order Walkers.
Once the action moves to the island where Luke is training Rey, it becomes apparent that Luke may have spent too much time alone on this island, because he seems a little crazy. He also now has a full robot hand. There’s no human skin covering it.
Luke is scared of Rey’s power, as it reminds him of Kylo Ren and the tragedy that he couldn’t prevent.
A few other highlights include Finn using a lightsaber against Captain Phasma, Poe saying the resistance is “the spark that lights the fire that burns the First Order down,” and a jaw-dropping final scene that could change everything.
The point of this trailer was to announce that tickets are on sale and to get fans even more excited about the movie. Mission accomplished.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi jumps into theaters Dec. 15 and is directed by Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
