Idris Elba Says he Wants a ‘Bigger Character’ in the MCU

With Thor: Ragnarok about to hit theaters and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe revving up to fight Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, one hero is saying he wants more superhero work.

Idris Elba plays Heimdall, gatekeeper of Asgard, and while he loves doing superhero movies, in a recent interview with EW, he expressed his desire to do more.

“I wish I was more present in the Marvel family. I like what I have, but I also wish that I had a bigger character in the Marvel universe,” he said. “It’s been great, but I kinda think I need a bit more. I want to be a superhero. I like the idea of that.”

Elba also explained that he does love the freedom his smaller role affords him.

“I like that I have a little part in Thor. I’m neither movie star or day player. It allows me to do other things I love,” he said. “The last one was fun. The others weren’t fun. They’re work. But on this one, Taika was great.”

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum and Anthony Hopkins, Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters Nov. 3.
