Kelly Marie Tran Talks About Rose in ‘The Last Jedi’
While details for Star Wars: The Last Jedi are more protected and secure than the blueprints for the Death Star, thanks to an interview Entertainment Weekly had with Kelly Marie Tran, we now know a little bit more about Rose, her character.
“Rose is smart and she’s confident and she’s loyal. She’s going to be such a cool character because she’s someone who isn’t a model. She’s not a superhero. She’s just kind of an everyday person, and that’s something special about her. She’s someone who is able to face her fears in the face of adversity even though she kind of is a background player in the Resistance.”
What we already knew about Rose is that will pair up with Finn to help him get back on his feet after his lightsaber incident at the end of The Force Awakens, and according to Tran, the characteristic Rose shares with both Luke and Rey is “their journey from everyday person to unlikely hero”.
But it remains uncertain whether Rose will appear in Star Wars Episode IX or even if she’ll make it in The Last Jedi. She even joked about it, asking to “Let [her] know if you hear anything,”

For Tran, not being a fan of Star Wars while growing up is what help her in this new role in the franchise.
“It was good because I was able to kind of look at this character objectively and not think about what it should be or what Star Warswas like, but obviously when you get something like this you want to research everything and watch every single movie and you just can’t help but respect how amazing it is.”
But she recall that, during the process of five auditions with a break of a month between each one, she was excited about the news.
“I found out. I couldn’t tell anyone, so I just went right back to my job and finished out the work day. I was dying inside. I was numb; I was answering emails like what’s happening?!!”
And whatever happens after The Last Jedi premieres, she’ll be ready for it, as she has been advised by John Boyega and Daisy Ridley about the sudden fame Star Wars brings within.
“John [Boyega] and Daisy [Ridley] have told me a little bit about what it was like for them. I think it’s different for everyone. And I don’t know if I’ll be ready until it happens. It’s one of those things that you can anticipate, you can think about, but you kind of just have to take it as it comes. But I have a great family and great friends, and I think that they’ll keep me grounded.”
What do you think about this news? Are you excited for her character?
