Gore Verbinski in Talks to Direct ‘Gambit’

Fox’s seemingly snake bitten Gambit movie may be back on track. Deadline is reporting that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is in talks to helm the X-Men movie.

Verbinski would become the film’s third director after both Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt left the project.

Channing Tatum is set to play mutant Remy LeBeau. He can turn objects into explosive projectiles, most notably his deck of cards. He also channels energy through his staff.

According to CBR, Tatum had previously stated that they were starting over with the film.

“We lit a fuse on the first one and just blew it completely out of the water,” he said. “I think we got lucky – we got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn’t seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then Deadpool and Logan came through and kicked the doors down.”

Tatum is also co-producing with X-Men vets Lauren Shuler-Donner and Simon Kinberg.

There is currently no release date or plot details available for Gambit.
