Pirates of the Caribbean Director in Talks to Helm Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent Return
Fans of Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales are in for a treat. The director of the most recent Pirates film, Joachim Rønning, is reportedly in talks to helm the follow-up to Maleficent, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Angelina Jolie’s return as the titular character for the sequel has also been confirmed.
Robert Stromberg helmed the first film, which opened in 2014 and grossed an impressive $758 globally. Joe Roth is producing; Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton are attached to pen Maleficent 2’s screenplay. Buttworth is known for having written screenplays for films such as Edge of Tomorrow and Spectre. Woolverton has a history with Disney’s live-action efforts, as she was tapped to write Maleficent and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

At the time of writing, Maleficent 2 has no release date. Plot details are also currently unknown.
