Could ‘The Gifted’ Exist in the Same Timeline as ‘Logan’?
Full disclosure friends, this is a mere theory I came up with after watching The Gifted last night while attempting to piece together the X-Men movies timeline, again. The timeline, which is basically just a big weird and mostly entertaining mess, kind of went off course with movies like Deadpool and Logan; these are both projects that seem to exist within their own kind of timeline/universe, and it works! The same with FX’s breakout hit, Legion, which could also be apart of this here weird timeline/universe we have within The Gifted.
So here it is. A few days ago, show runner Matt Nix said that the lack of X-Men was due to a “9/11 type event” . What if that event is the Westechester incident from Logan in which the Professor kills majority of the X-Men and most surrounding mutants due to a brain disease that caused his powerful mind to go haywire beyond his control?
According to CBR The Gifted actor, Stephen Moyer, who plays Reed Strucker spoke on how the show possibly fits n the X-Verse. Check out his quote below:
“But in terms of timeline, because obviously we just had Logan which was a lot further forward and obviously Legion which is a lot further back. So, we definitely slot into a timeline, but as of yet, we’re not allied.”
My guess is that The Gifted takes place before we catch up with Wolverine & Professor X in Logan, but after the events of Legion. Take that plus Legion star, Dan Stevens publicly asking Patrick Stewart to reprise his role as Charles Xavier on the show, AND Legion executive producer, Noah Hawley teasing that very same idea and you have yourself one lit theory!
I get asked a lot how I, a true X-Men/comic book fan, can put up with Fox’s ongoing circus that is my favorite superhero team. Well, it’s all fun at this point. If the project comes out good, then great! If not, then it’s something to laugh at and dissect while enjoying the action scenes (I’m looking at you X-Men: Apocalypse). What do you guys think of the possibility of these three fitting into the X-Verse together? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter!
Catch The Gifted on Fox next Monday at 9/8c.
I consider myself to be a true X head too and honestly it’s kinda cool to see the possibility of a stable time-line…and also a time-line where they have time to grow the characters and stories…
