Fans of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD know that the season five renewal came down to the wire. Now, the reason for such a late decision has been made public.

According to Variety, ABC’s parent company Disney made the network bring the series back for a fifth season.

Though many fans thought season four featured some of the series’ best stories, the move to 10 pm had a negative impact on the show’s ratings.

When last we left off, the team had just defeated evil robot AIDA, then headed to a diner where they were frozen by mysterious agents. In the next scene Coulson woke up on a space station.

For season five SHIELD is moving to Fridays at 9 pm following Once Upon A Time. ABC is hoping to create a sci-fi/fantasy block. It’s set to return after Marvel’s Inhumans finishes its run.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennett, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker and Henry Simmons.
