‘Van Wilder’ Director is Directing ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’

Scholastic Media has just announced that the adaptation of Clifford the Big Red Dog will be directed by Walt Becker, director of Van Wilder and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip.

The CGI-live action adaptation was announced last year, and was initially written by Justin Malen (of Office Christmas Party) and is now being written by Ellen Rapoport (of The Jamie Kennedy Experiment). The film will be adapting the books (not the show) that were written by Norman Bridwell starting in 1963.

Since the success of Clifford the Big Red Dog on PBS, Scholastic has been trying to make a live action film for years. Just last year, the rights for the film transferred from Illumination Entertainment to Paramount.

Though it’s seemingly been in development hell for years, it seems like Clifford finally has a team together to bring the big red dog to the screen.

If you grew up reading the books or watching the show, do you have any hopes for a live action Clifford movie? Let us know in the comments!
