Taika Waititi Currently In Talks To Direct Akira Live Action Film
While we are only a couple months away from the premiere of Thor: Ragnarok, we may be seeing more of the film’s director in other projects.
Deadline reports today that Taika Waititi is now in talks with Warner Bros to direct the Akira live-action film. Akira is a 6-volume graphic novel created by Katsuhiro Otomo. Check out a quick synopsis of the graphic novels below:
The story takes place in the rebuilt New Manhattan where a leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment.
According to Deadline, Akira has been a project that they have been trying to get off the ground for awhile now, as Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures “acquired it for 7-figures from manga publisher Kodansha. The intention has always been to make 2 films, each covering 3 books in the series.”

Taika: Don’t fck it up, and get a Japanese or Japanese American lead actor.
Do not whitewash this movie. Remember, if we hate it, we always have the anime and books, and this movie will be forgotten.
