Jon Bernthal Calls Upcoming ‘Punisher’ Series Marvel’s Most Dark and Brutal

Since the appearance of The Punisher in the second season of Daredevil, many fans have been patiently waiting for Frank Castle to have the premiere of his solo series and now, The Punisher star, Jon Bernthal has some news to share about the impending show.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bernthal described what to expect from Marvel for its next Netflix series, calling the series both ‘dark’ and ‘brutal’. Bernthal told EW:

“This season is much darker as it goes, it gets darker and darker and more visceral. The show takes you on this journey of Frank becoming more and more human again and then shutting off and shutting off and going back to what works for him, and the place where he kind of belongs, and I think that’s a place of solitude and of darkness and destruction. It’s going to get into as dark and as brutal a place as you’ve ever seen in the Marvel world, I can promise you that.”

The Marvel Netflix shows have never shied away from darkness and violence before and clearly this will be no different with The Punisher series.

Bernthal also spoke about the pressure he feels to get Frank Castle right. He said, “I want to honor him and the fans to whom he means so much. I really want to get this right for them, and the pressure’s on.”
