Director Chris McKay Says ‘Nightwing’ to Address Dick Grayson’s Past
Like most superheroes, Dick Grayson has a tragic past that led him to become Robin, and later Nightwing.
The death of his parents and adoption by Bruce Wayne brought him into the hero world. However, many of the skills he uses to fight crime he gained from his time in Haley’s Circus.
Director Chris McKay told CinemaBlend that the circus will appear in the Nightwing movie “in some form.” He continued on saying “there will be lots of nods. Lots of nods.”
In a separate interview with the Shanlian Batman Podcast, McKay discussed why he was interested in making a Nightwing film.
“He’s a fascinating guy to me because he had all the same things happen to him,” said McKay. “He’s got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint – obviously, he was adopted into Bruce Wayne’s life – but he didn’t start that way.”
“He’s this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains,” he continued. “Those are things why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of Nightwing as a movie.”
Nightwing is in the early stages of development, so Geeks of Color will keep you posted on release date, casting and plot details as they become available.
